Flores is a fascinating island to explore and is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the archipelago. The island is a walker’s paradise and although we do not offer a set walking holiday, our hoteliers are more than happy to recommend walking routes and organise excursions for you. A walk along Europe’s westernmost coastline is a must! variety of activities can be booked locally including walks, boat trips and whale watching as shown below.
Non Guided Walks on Flores
Ponta do Albarnaz is a 2 hour 30 minutes (11km) walk on Flores’ west coast. The route is bordered by hydrangeas and descends and crosses several rivulets before reaching your first view point. Here you can enjoy spectacular views over Maria Vaz islet, Ponta do Albarnaz lighthouse and, on a clear day, the tiny island of Corvo. Continuing on an unmade track you will then descend towards Ponta da Faja and the quaint village of Faja Grande, where the walk comes to an end. Grade 2
Miradouro das Lagoas is a 3 hour (7km) walk offering spectacular views along the west coast of Flores and descending to the pretty village of Ribeira das Casas with its gurgling stream. The walk ends at the pool and waterfall of Poça do Bacalhau in Faja Grande – offering the perfect opportunity for a refreshing swim. Grade 2

Flores Island Tour
Sunvil is able to pre-book the following private taxi tour on Flores. Tours can also be tailor-made to suit the individual requirements of our clients, please telephone us for a quotation.
Half day tour - Depart from Santa Cruz towards the west coast of the island on the interior road. En route you will stop at the Ribeira da Cruz belvedere and visit the lakes of Lomba, Funda and Rasa. Continue to Fajazinha and Ponta da Faja Grande. Return to Santa Cruz stopping at the Caveira belvedere to admire the view over Santa Cruz, the principal town of the island and the west coast.

Whale & Dolphin Watching Trip around Flores
Traditional hunting and culling of whales in the Azores was stopped in 1987. Today, whale and dolphin watching has become a popular activity on most of the islands. It is possible to book whale and dolphin watching excursions on Flores locally.
Price is 15 Euros per person based on a minimum of 4 people

■ Zodiac boats (small, rigid hull inflatables carrying up to 12 people) are used.
■ Schedules to be advised locally depending on weather conditions.
■ Transfers to/from the whaling base are not included.
■ Minimum child age is 5 years (accompanied by a parent or guardian).
Important: Children aged 4yrs or under, pregnant women or any person suffering from severe back problems, are not allowed on the Zodiac boats.
Boat Trips to Corvo
A boat tour around the island of Flores can be arranged locally. During the
summer months (May-Sep), when the weather is settled, it is also possible to visit the neighbouring island of Corvo.
