The Travel Foundation
The Travel Foundation is a UK charity that cares for the places we love to visit. Your holiday can make a real difference to your favourite destinations. It can help protect the natural environment, traditions and culture – the things that make your visit special. And it can improve the well-being of local families – so that more people benefit from your visit. All of which can make your holiday experience even better!
Most importantly, it can help ensure that there are great places for us all to visit – for generations to come.
Sunvil, along with several other travel companies, is supporting the work of the Travel Foundation by donating 50p from every holiday booked to the charity and providing help in kind in the way of complimentary flights, accommodation and other services in order to help the workings of the charity. You will see on your holiday confirmation we have added £1 should you wish to match our contribution. Should you not wish to donate, simply deduct this amount from your final payment.
Between January and September 2008, the Sunvil Group and its clients contributed a total of £16,605.50.
Ongoing projects in our destinations:
- The Village Routes Project in Cyprus
- Estrella Community Tours in Brazil
- Jungle Jams for Maya Communities in Mexico
The UK is taking a lead in changing the way the world travels. For more information, please take a look at The Travel Foundation's website at www.thetravelfoundation.org.uk
Friends of the Ionian
As a specialist in our chosen areas, we are very conscious that we should not destroy the places to which we send our clients and from where our livelihood is derived. We do not send large numbers, and believe that ‘low impact’ tourism can not only be environmentally sustainable but also (if handled in the right way) positively beneficial to local communities.
To this end we are corporate members of Friends of the Ionian (FoI). FoI is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the quality of tourism in the Ionian for visitors, islanders and the environment.
FoI also performs a public information role to further the protection of endangered species and to preserve the region’s heritage. It operates in co-operation with projects across the Ionian, including protection of the threatened Mediterranean Monk Seal and Loggerhead Turtle. Membership benefits include a regular magazine/newsletter.
ISLAND INFORMATION PACKS
If you are planning to visit the Ionian, find out what your island has to offer with an FoI Island Information Pack. Full of practical information, the Pack is an invaluable guide to getting the most out of your holiday. It includes an ‘At a Glance’ guide, an island map and a self-guided trail for the island’s main town.
Packs are available for the islands of Corfu, Paxos, Lefkas, Kefalonia and Ithaca. Just send a cheque/PO for £4.95 to FoI, stating your island destination, or download directly from their website.

Kefalonia Animal Trust Society (KATS)
Kats was formed in 2003 with the aim of caring for stray animals on Kefalonia, and has applied for charity status.
The Trust’s work includes feeding, homing and neutering strays via a network of carers in various villages. They hope to build an animal shelter in the near future. Of course, money is tight and KATS relies on donations from locals and visitors alike.
We and our clients have also supported a shelter in Chania, Crete for many years.
If you would like to support either of these projects, or would like further information on their work, please see your Sunvil representative locally.
