Car Hire in Portugal

Distances in Portugal are relatively short and the majority of roads are good. Some roads can be precipitous with hairpin bends and the minor roads can be quite rough. Motorways have pay tolls, so always carry small change with you.

Included in your Europcar rental:
1. Unlimited mileage.


2. Loss Damage Waiver (LDW). In the event of an accident or theft of the rental car this insurance covers the full value of the vehicle. However you remain liable for the excess amount of 907.50 Euros (Group A, B & C), 1512.50 Euros (Group D & E,) 1815 Euros (Groups F, G & H) and 2117.50 Euros (Group I). Please note that this insurance does not cover damage to tyres, the vehicle undercarriage or the windscreen.


3. All local taxes and airport surcharges.


4. Third Party Liability Insurance. This covers any third party in the event of an accident.


Notes:
1. Cars will be supplied with a full tank of petrol. Clients will be required to leave a cash deposit or credit card imprint corresponding to a full tank of petrol approx. 80 Euros (depending on the size of the vehicle). This deposit will be refunded when the car is returned, with a full tank of petrol. Any missing fuel on the return of the vehicle will incur an additional service charge, payable locally. Please note that the credit card needs to be in the name of the designated driver.


2. Each additional driver will be charged locally at a rate of 4.24 Euros per day (maximum amount 42.35 Euros per rental).


3. A full UK or EU driving licence, issued not less than one year prior to rental (two years for Group I).


4. Driving in Portugal is on the Right.


5. Minimum age is 21yrs (Groups A to H) and 25yrs (Group I). No maximum age limit.


6. Infant/Baby seats (up to 6 years old)  on request and payable locally of 7.26 Euros per day (maximum of 72.60 Euros per rental). Booster seats (7 + years old) on request and payable locally at 3.63 Euros per day (maximum of 36.30 Euros per rental). Note: Infant/Baby and Booster seats are now compulsory with all car rentals in Portugal.


7. Roof racks are on request.


8. We can request, but not guarantee a particular make of car.


9. We are not liable for any police or traffic fines incurred by clients.


10. A charge of between 12-25 Euros each way applies for delivery and collection within city limits. This charge is payable locally. Charges outside city limits are on request.


11. These conditions also apply to car hire already included in the cost of our holiday. All local charges quoted here include VAT (21%).


12. Our insurance does not cover any personal belongings stolen while left unattended in a hire car, unless in a locked and covered compartment (valuables are not covered).


13. Airports are open 365 days a year. Opening hours for Europcar at Lisbon are 0600-2400, Porto 0700-2400 and Faro 0600-2400. After-hours airport charge is 30.25 Euros payable locally.


14. GPS (Navigation System) equipment is available at a cost of 11.50 Euros per day (maximum amount 175.45 Euros per rental). This equipment is only available from the airport and must be returned to the same airport collected from - not available for one-way rentals.

 

15. Please advise us, at the time of booking, of any ENDORSEMENTS ON YOUR LICENCE.


Not included (payable locally):
1. Super Loss Damage Waiver Insurance (SLDWI). This is an extra charge, which if paid, will void any excess payable, in the event of an accident or the theft of the rental car. The price per day of Super LDW is 11.50 Euros (Groups A, B & C), 12.10 Euros (Groups D & E), 13.31 Euros (Groups F & G), 14.52 Euros (Group H) and 21.78 Euros (Group I).


2. Personal Accident Insurance (PAI). This insurance will cover the cost of any personal medical costs incurred in the event of an accident. This insurance is optional and payable locally at 6.78 Euros per day. Please note that Sunvil travel insurance provides limited personal insurance and covers medical costs. If you have not purchased Sunvil travel insurance, please check with your insurance company prior to departure to see if you will be covered.


N.B: Please note that you do not have to purchase any of the above. Should you decide to do so, these will be noted on your rental agreement and be payable by the client locally.
