Where in Sweden

Sweden is largely unexplored by UK visitors, so if you’re unsure where to start, please read our brief descriptions of each area to help you decide where to go:

Gothenburg & West Sweden

The landscape of West Sweden varies from rocky coastlines with picturesque villages to open-fields, vast forests and beautiful lakes. It is a diverse and spectacular region and a delight to explore.

Gothenburg, the gateway city to West Sweden, is considered by many as the most interesting and varied of all Swedish cities. Situated at the mouth of the River Göta, the city is rich in history and culture and has a character and vibrancy all of its own. A truly cosmopolitan destination, Gothenburg is ideal for a weekend break or for a longer stay. Garden, shopping and food aficionados need look no further!

Gotland

Lying 90km off the east coast of Sweden, the island of Gotland is the Pearl of the Baltic Sea and a historic gem. Gotland, including the island of Fårö, is 175km long and measures 50km at its widest point. It is well-known as the Swedish playground because of its beautiful sandy beaches and the vibrant social scene in the summer

Northern Sweden

This is a region where nature dominates and reindeer and elk thrive – vast open spaces, dense coniferous forests, swiftly flowing rivers and lakes, and the mountain peaks of Kebenekaise. It is the land of the Lapps or Sámi, Scandinavia’s oldest indigenous people with age old traditions.

Northern Sweden is widely considered to be one of the last remaining wildernesses on earth and the further north you travel the more isolated the towns become.

Stockholm & Sormland

Spread over 14 islands and built around one of the best-preserved medieval city centres in the world, Stockholm is widely considered one of the most romantic cities in Europe. With over 70 museums, an archipelago of over 24,000 islands and a wealth of parkland it is also one of the most varied and interesting cities to visit.

Sörmland is renowned for its wealth of country houses, many of which are open to the public, and its picturesque open landscape.
