Activities on Santa Maria

Santa Maria is a beautiful island to explore on foot. However, for those staying on the island for a short period of time, we would recommend a half day tour by private taxi. A private tour will enable you to visit the main attractions on the island as well as stopping at many viewpoints to admire the picturesque landscape.

Half day tour of Santa Maria

Depart from Vila do Porto to the small seaside resort of Anjos and its small chapel where Christopher Columbus attended mass on his return from America. From Anjos, on a clear day, it is possible to see the island of Sao Miguel on the horizon. Continue to the pretty village of Santo Espirito, surrounded by green pastures and hills, where you will visit the beautifully restored 17th century baroque church. Return to Vila do Porto via Maia and the viewpoint overlooking the bay of Sao Lourenco.

Price: £74 per taxi based on a maximum of 3 people.

Not Included: Lunch & entrance fees to museums and parks.
