The Azores is one of the best places in the world to fish for Blue Marlin - the catches are spectacular with six of the world records held here, the largest weighing a staggering 1189 lbs. The average weight is normally 150-500 kg but often you can encounter larger fish including Grander’s, a term for Blue Marlin fish weighing 1,000 lbs or more.

The Atlantic waters of the Azores are also home to an abundance of small game fish including Tuna fish, White Marlin and Shark. The wealth of fish in these waters attracts both the European and World big game championships in September of each year. 

It is possible to hire a boat, including its skipper and a minimum of 2 crew members for either a half-day or a full-day’s fishing. Whilst at sea clients are also likely to encounter dolphins, whales and turtles as well as being able to appreciate the spectacular landscape of Sao Miguel from a unique viewpoint. 

Big Game Season

• Marlin (Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Spearfish, Wahoo and Dourado) – July to October
• Tuna Fish (Big Eye, Albacore, Yellow Fin and Blue Fin) – April to June
• Shark (Mako Shark, Blue Shark and Hammerhead Shark) – All year

Coastline Fishing

• Barracuda, Bonito, Bluefish, Amberjack, Jack Creval, Mackerel – All year

Notes:

• The boats depart Ponta Delgada at 09.00 hrs for the full and half-day (morning) trips.
• The boats depart Ponta Delgada at 1430 hrs for the half-day (afternoon) trip.
• The trips are suitable for beginners as well as for the more experienced fishermen.
