Four Island Tour itinerary:
Saturday – SAO MIGUEL
Arrive at Ponta Delgada airport. Transfer to the Hotel Vila Nova.
Sunday - Depart from Ponta Delgada to Sete Cidades lakes by the mountain road. Stop at the ‘Vista do Rei’ belvedere which, on a clear day, affords one of the finest views in the Azores. Return to Ponta Delgada, stopping at a pineapple plantation en route. Free afternoon.
Monday - Depart from Ponta Delgada to the village of Furnas, visiting the town of Vila Franca do Campo en route. Furnas is famed for its botanical garden, hot springs and Caldeiras (1m deep holes dug into the hot earth in which the traditional Cozido is cooked). Lunch not included. Return to Ponta Delgada by the north coast visiting a tea plantation (unique in Europe) and the town of Ribeira Grande.
Tuesday – TERCEIRA
Transfer to Ponta Delgada airport for flight to Terceira (40-minutes). Transfer to the Hotel Praia Marina.
Wednesday - Enjoy a free morning in Praia da Vitoria. In the afternoon depart to Biscoitos where you will visit a wine museum and the natural swimming pools. Return to Praia da Vitoria passing through the villages of Doze Ribeiras and Sao Mateus.
Thursday – FAIAL
Transfer to Terceira airport for flight to Faial (1-hour). Transfer to the Hotel do Canal. Free day to visit Horta.
Friday – PICO (Day trip)
Depart from Horta harbour, for a 30-minute boat trip to Pico Island. From Madalena harbour you will take the mountain road across the island towards the village of Lajes do Pico. This journey will include the beautiful south coast of the island, with its vineyards bordered by black volcanic rock and Mount Pico towering above. At Lajes do Pico you will visit the whaler’s museum with its fascinating exhibition illustrating whaling in the Azores which, until its ban in 1987, was the main industry on the islands. Continue to Sao Roque with a brief stop (lunch not included) before returning to Madalena port, visiting the black rocks of Cachorro en route. Return to Faial by boat.
Saturday – FAIAL
Depart from Horta to Caldeira, the highest point on the island from where you can enjoy wonderful views across the ocean to the neighbouring islands of Pico and Sao Jorge. On a clear day you can also see the island of Graciosa in the distance. From Caldeira the tour will continue to Capelinhos, the eerie site of the last volcano eruption in the Azores (1957), before returning to Horta. Free afternoon.
Sunday - SAO MIGUEL
Transfer to Horta airport for flight to Ponta Delgada (1-hour). Transfer to the Hotel Sao Miguel Park.
Monday - Free time on Sao Miguel. Opportunity to explore the town of Ponta Delgada, indulge in some last minute shopping and/or participate in whale watching or swimming with dolphins excursion (pre-bookable through Sunvil or through our local representatives), or just relax.
Tuesday - Transfer to Ponta Delgada airport for the return flight home.
